Nutrition For Comps

Hello fellow climbers,

Personally, I find proper nutrition to be a constant battle and I'm sure some of you can relate. Here at NutriClimb our goal is to give you the tools you need to be the best climber that you can be. NutriClimb is about more than just selling you high quality products, we are about developing a system that you can use to increase your performance on, and off, the wall.

Today I wanted to focus on consuming the right foods and beverages for maximum performance in competition climbing. As some of you may not know, your energy levels and performance on the day of the comp are directly affected by what you eat the day before.

Competitions can last several hours and require a large amount of energy and stamina. To help ensure your muscles are ready to tackle the task at hand you need to consume at least 60% of your meal as nutrient-rich carbohydrates and plenty of water the night before the comp. Examples would be fruit, almonds, beans etc. Carbs are converted into glycogen in the muscles. Glycogen is your muscles primary source of fuel.

Whether competing in the morning or evening it is always a good idea to eat carbs that are easily - digesting carbs and to cut out protein and foods high in fat. Some easily -digesting carbs include: simple sugars, bananas, veggies etc. In addition to eating the right foods, the best way to obtain what your body needs can be as easy as consuming our Pre-Workout Beta Berry Blast drink before the comp.  It's ingredients ensure your body has the carbs it needs whilst promoting efficient and healthy carb digestion.

Finally competition time. Very similar to the before comp section, you want to consume easily- digesting carbs as well as our Pre-Workout drink.  30 to 60 grams of these easy to digest carbs for every hour of climbing is ideal. Especially while in isolation, you want to increase glycogen levels as fast as possible to perform your best.  As a final note remember to consume at least 25 grams of protein within 30 to 40 minutes after climbing. Our Post-Workout recovery drink will ensure you get the essential nutrients needed to recover quicker with the convenience of packing light. Also remember to stay hydrated at all times.
